Obsequoius has overcome the odds by winning the $125,000 Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.
It was a superb win by the three-year-old who paired up with top-notch jockey Tim Clark, cementing her aspirants as a rising star of the spring racing carnival.
Trained by Peter Snowden, the Lonhro filly backed up an emphatic barrier trial win last month with the 2010 San Domenico Stakes after heading into the race as an outsider with SportsBet.
Off the jump Clark guided Obsequious just off the pace behind pre race favourite Solar Charged.
Hoping to emulate her sire’s 2007 San Domenico Stakes run where he claimed full honours, the Solar Charged filly could not maintain the pace in the final straight and saw Obsequious sail past.
Solar Charged finished a length-and-a-half off the pace, with Decision Time back in third.
Also taking place on Saturday at Randwick alongside the 2010 San Domenico Stakes was the $125,000 Group Three Missile Stakes (1200m), which saw a gallant win by Love Conquers All.
