Rubick Likely to Re-appear in 2014 San Domenico Stakes

July 15th, 2014

A notable performer over two-year-old events through the 2014 Sydney Autumn Carnival, boom colt Rubick will take another large step towards re-appearing on course this weekend; confirmed to gallop between races at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend.

Appearing on course for a strong barrier trial win amongst classy company on January 7th, Rubick more than stamped his claims as one to watch throughout the autumn when strolling home to win the TAB Iphone App Plate (1000m) first-up on January 25th before repeating the dose in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) just two weeks later.

Finding the final straight of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in the clear, Rubick was unable to sustain his sprint, fading to finish fourth.

Immediately returning to the spelling paddock following the Blue Diamond Stakes, trainer Gerald Ryan confirmed the Encosta De Lago colt will return to racing in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 16th before likely heading straight to Victoria for Group 1 features.

Confirmed to partner Rubick in his gallop this weekend, regular jockey Brenton Avdulla said he could not pass up the chance to get in the saddle on Saturday, despite not being booked for any competitive events on the day.

“Gerald asked me whether he should just get another jockey for the gallop because I didn’t need to be there but I told him no chance anyone else is getting on,” Avdulla told TVN.

“I’ll just cruise out and do the gallop and then head back home.

“I’m really looking forward to the gallop; he has been in for a while now and is going super.

“He hasn’t grown a hell of a lot but he is still well put together, he still feels powerful underneath me.

“He is a gentleman to do anything with, pretty laid back – he has a good horses attitude, when he gallops he can fire up a bit but that is just him, he loves to run.”

With the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13th figuring as a possible target should he remain in Sydney, Rubick may step up to 1600 metres to target the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, or remain at sprinting distances and aim for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) should Victoria figure throughout spring. is currently offering the best odds on all major races through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival!
