2015 San Domenico Stakes Final Field and Barrier Draw

August 13th, 2015

Eight classy three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the return of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting prospects.

Vancouver stamped himself as undoubtedly his age group’s standout through an impressive autumn campaign and will leave from barrier 7 in the 2015 San Domenico Stakes.

Winning the Listed NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) on debut last October, the Medaglia D’oro colt returned this time for successes in each of the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) and Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) before posting an impressive win in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 21st.

Tommy Berry has retained the ride on Vancouver for the 2015 San Domenico colt but the colt will have to overcome a race-high 60kgs.

Headwater was a strong and largely consistent performer for Team Hawkes through autumn but will have to overcome the outside barrier if to win the San Domenico Stakes first-up.

Winning a talent-rich Moonee Valley minor over 1000m on debut in December, Headwater returned this year for a crushing first-up success in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) but faded late for third in the Todman Stakes.

Having returned to the paddock after placing a credible fifth in the Golden Slipper, the Exceed And Excel colt has trialled well in the lead-up to his racing return and arguably figures as the best chance of beating Vancouver on Saturday.

Godolphin Australia are spoiled for choice with talented three-year-olds this season, and leading contender Haptic has been confirmed for a return in the 2015 San Domenico Stakes.

Haptic debuted for success in the TAB Place Multi Plate (1000m) on January 24th before making a successful transition to black type racing in beating a handy field to the line in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on February 14th.

While unable to figure when 12th in the Golden Slipper, John O’Shea has bold plans for the Exceed And Excel gelding this time and is confident of a competitive first-up run on Saturday.

Hugh Bowman has been booked to take the ride on Redzel in the 2015 San Domenico Stakes and is confident the colt is capable of a big upset in the San Domenico Stakes.

Winning a Warwick Farm minor over 1100m with complete ease on debut in March, the Snitzel colt returned to the paddock after placing a credible third in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on Day 1 of The Championships and is weighted particularly well at just 56kgs this weekend.
