Betting markets for the 2011 San Domenico Stakes and all the other exciting Rosehill races this Saturday have been released, the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge leading the odds for the early Sydney Spring Carnival feature.

The resuming son of Fastnet Rock, who last ran seventh behind Peter Snowden’s superstar Sepoy on the prestigious Golden Slipper in April, is the firming favourite to win the $125,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) through Luxbet.

Fontelina is a double-figure outsider in the San Domenico Stakes odds that could be the best value Luxbet pick of the day!

Having won a barrier trial at Rosehill last week, Foxwedge opened at the top of the San Domenico Stakes odds yesterday at a quote of $2.35.

Overnight big money bets continue to roll in on the 2011 Golden Rose-bound galloper, and Foxwedge is now paying $2.10 through Luxbet in the Rosehill Race 5 odds for Saturday.

Jockey Nash Rawiller has the mount on Foxwedge and believes the San Domenico Stakes is there’s to win.

“I’ve got a lot of time for him, his trials have been nice and I’m looking forward to Saturday,” Rawiller said.

“I reckon he’s a high-class colt and Saturday’s race looks like a really nice race for him to kick-off in.”

While Foxwedge is the most highly-spruiked of the seven horses in the 2011 San Domenico Stakes field, there are plenty of other contenders with genuine claims at generous odds through Luxbet.

There are three other runners at single-figure odds in the San Domenico markets with Karuta Queen ($3.70), Anise ($6) and Hollyweird ($8) the next best fancied at Luxbet.

Drawn nicely in gate two, the Gerald Ryan-trained Hollyweird looks to have a nice chance over the distance.

“She’s got a lot of natural ability, she’s only little but she’s got good speed and she can ‘possie’ up from the barrier…she’ll run an honest race,” Ryan said.

Meanwhile a double-figure outsider in the San Domenico odds that could be the best value Luxbet bet of the day is the Anthony Cummings-trained Fontelina paying $15.

Fontelina resumes after a dismal dead-last finish in the Group 1 TJ Smith at Eagle Farm, but Cummings reports they are back to full fitness and ready to give the favourites a run for their money from his inside alley.

“I expect him to be back to his best for first-up on Saturday,” Cummings said.

“He worked nicely on Tuesday morning, I’m pleased with him and he’ll be going into that race and be a good chance.

“He was quite fresh the other day in his trial and he’s well enough to run a good race.”

Foxwedge is the headline runner in this Saturday’s 2011 San Domenico Stakes final field, acceptances for the Rosehill feature taken on Wednesday.

The $125,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) this year attracted a field of seven three-year-olds, the race serving as a nice preparatory run for gallopers heading towards the Sydney Spring Carnival majors including the 2011 Golden Rose.

One of the top picks in the early Golden Rose odds at Luxbet is the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge, the promising son of Fastnet Rock also likely to be installed as favourite to win the San Domenico on Saturday.

Drawn in barrier six and due to be ridden by Nash Rawiller, Foxwedge staked his claims to emerge the San Domenico Stakes winner with an impressive early morning hitout at Randwick on Tuesday morning.

Foxwedge was ridden by ace Kiwi hoop James McDonald for the trail on the Kensington-track, McDonald pleased with the horse that he will watch race from back home in New Zealand on the weekend.

“He worked awesome,” McDonald said.

“I’m looking forward to watching him go around on Saturday. He’s a lovely horse.

“I’d say he’ll be right in it going by the way he worked.”

O’Shea is hoping to see Foxwedge return to race conditions in good form, the dual winner having pulled up sore after running seventh to Sepoy in the Golden Slipper back in April.

“He needed to have a good hitout because he’s a pretty gross colt and he had that this morning,” O’Shea said.

“We won’t die wondering on Saturday. He’s probably only going to have four runs this preparation and we’ll make sure that in all of them he’s right up to the mark.”

O’Shea is vying for his second San Domenico success having prepared 2004 winner Charge Forward.

Other exciting entries for the showdown on Saturday include Neville Layt’s talented filly Karuta Queen who drew barrier five and the Peter Snowden-trained Anise.

A nice gate three draw brings Anise into contention, the last-start Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes winner to be ridden by Joshua Parr.

Parr partnered with the daughter of General Nediym for a pleasing trial at Warwick Farm last month, and Snowden is hopeful she shows enough early on to continue racing in the Group races for fillies throughout the Sydney Spring Carnival.

“She’s worked well, she trialled nicely,” Snowden said.

“There’s some good fillies options (for her) all the way through in Sydney.”

The 2011 San Domenico Stakes nominations have been extended until Tuesday August 9, with 11 classy gallopers currently making up the early entries for the feature Rosehill Racecourse showdown this Saturday.

A traditional kick-off point for the season’s promising three-year-olds, the $125,000 Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) serves as an excellent guide for Luxbet punters ahead of the Sydney and Melbourne Spring Carnival’s upcoming Group 1 features such as the 2011 Golden Rose.

Karuta Queen is one of the top horses to back in the San Domenico Stakes odds at Luxbet for this Saturday

Leading the San Domenico Stakes nominees this year is the Neville Layt-trained Karuta Queen.

One-time favourite for the Golden Slipper last season, Not A Single Doubt filly Karuta Queen enjoyed a stunning start to her career winning four straight races including a fairytale victory in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast in January.

Karuta Queen’s autumn preparation culminated with a disappointing 10th place finish behind winner Sepoy in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 2.

Having been sent to the paddock for a well-deserved spell, Layt is over the moon with the way Karuta Queen has come back.

“She has been working the place down,” Layt said.

She showed good form and plenty of promise for her three-year-old season winning two 900 metre hitouts at her home track at Queanbeyan by eight and 10 lengths, with Layt tipping her as the horse to back in the San Domenico Stakes odds at Luxbet.

“If she goes like she’s been going it’s going to take a pretty smart one to beat her,” he said.

“She’s low-flying like she was when she was an early two-year-old. She’s back better than ever. She’s done a treat and is right on the ball.”

The other headline entry for this year’s San Domenico Stakes field is the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge.

Fastnet Rock colt Foxwedge had mixed success during his two-year-old career, showing potential when running a close third behind Smart Missile and Sepoy in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) in March before finishing a somewhat disappointing seventh in the Golden Slipper last start.

O’Shea is confident they are ready to return in good order, however, with Foxwedge winning a barrier trial over 900 metres at Rosehill last week.

“There is a lot of improvement left in him but he will be competitive on Saturday,” O’Shea said.

Foxwedge is on way to the Sydney Spring Carnival’s opening Group 1 showdown, the $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on October 9.

“Foxwedge will have a couple of runs going into the Golden Rose, which is his main target,” O’Shea confirmed.

“I think that 1400 metres is going to be his pet distance, the way he has come back.”

In the early Golden Rose odds at Australia’s premier bookmaker Luxbet Foxwedge is rated $10 while Karuta Queen is a $26 roughie.

Other notable gallopers looking to start their preparations in the San Domenico Stakes on Saturday include Peter Snowden’s Group 3 winning filly Anise, the John Thompson-trained Boys On Tour, More Than Ready filly Defiant Dame and Snitzel filly Hollyweird.

The 2011 San Domenico Stakes final field of acceptances and barrier draw will be released by Racing New South Wales on Wednesday and published right here so bookmark this site.

In the meantime, get ready to place your first spring bets by signing up with Luxbet.

One of the first Group race features of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the 2011 San Domenico Stakes is set to light up the esteemed Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this year on Saturday August 8.

A Group 3 race for three-year-olds, the San Domenico Stakes is a sprint event held over 1100 metres and prize money is set at $125,000.

An ideal lead-up race for the year’s promising 3YO’s, the San Domenico Stakes 2011 also gives punters an exciting early season feature to have a bet on through Luxbet.

Many horses use the race as a campaign kick-off, the best performers in the San Domenico Stakes field often progressing onto one of the Sydney Carnival’s spring showcases – the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).

The 2011 Golden Rose will run at Rosehill on September 10 and is considered the premier race for three-year-olds in Sydney for the season.

Last year’s San Domenico Stakes winner was the Peter Snowden-trained filly, Obsequious who went on to win the 2011 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick during the summer.

Rising three-year-olds that are set to be among the 2011 San Domenico Stakes nominations include Karuta Queen and Foxwedge.

One of the most consistent juveniles of last season, the Neville Layt-trained Karuta Queen won her opening four race starts before her campaign culminated with a 10th place finish to Snowden’s star colt Sepoy in the Group 1 Golden Slipper.

“She is a bit fat at present but is on track for the San Domenico,” Layt said.

“She has spelled really well and has come back really happy, she should make a very good three-year-old.”

The John O’Shea-trained son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge ran seventh in this year’s Golden Slipper on April 2 and is also likely to resume in the San Domenico before targeting Group 1 glory in the Golden Slipper.

“Foxwedge will…go to the San Domenico Stakes and Golden Rose,” O’Shea said.

Obsequious ran eighth in the 2010 Golden Slipper before winning the San Domenico 12 months ago, making Karuta Queen and Foxwedge nice early picks to back in the Luxbet San Domenico betting markets for this year.

Obsequoius has overcome the odds by winning the $125,000 Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday.

It was a superb win by the three-year-old who paired up with top-notch jockey Tim Clark, cementing her aspirants as a rising star of the spring racing carnival.

Trained by Peter Snowden, the Lonhro filly backed up an emphatic barrier trial win last month with the 2010 San Domenico Stakes after heading into the race as an outsider with SportsBet.

Off the jump Clark guided Obsequious just off the pace behind pre race favourite Solar Charged.

Hoping to emulate her sire’s 2007 San Domenico Stakes run where he claimed full honours, the Solar Charged filly could not maintain the pace in the final straight and saw Obsequious sail past.

Solar Charged finished a length-and-a-half off the pace, with Decision Time back in third.

Also taking place on Saturday at Randwick alongside the 2010 San Domenico Stakes was the $125,000 Group Three Missile Stakes (1200m), which saw a gallant win by Love Conquers All.

If you want to make the most of the horse racing action taking to the Australian tracks this spring, don’t head to the TAB just go to SportsBet.

The $125,000 Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m) will see nine top quality starters at this Saturday’s jump, as the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival action continues.

There are eight superb races taking place at the Royal Randwick Racecourse alone this weekend, so if you want to find out the best betting options then head to Sportsbet.

Solar Charged is charging the odds at $2.40 for the win with SportsBet, and will be a force to be reckoned with as the superb three-year-old filly teams up with champion partner Corey Brown in the hot seat.

The Charge Forward filly stunned many in her 900 metre barrier trial at Rosehill recently, when she simply dominated an eight horse field to win by eight lengths.

Despite drawing the widest alley, trainer John O’Shea has expressed his desire for Brown to get in front early and hold the lead throughout the sprint.

Decision Time is another favourite among the punters at $4.20 and has the added advantage of barrier three.

The Foreplay gelding also impressed in a barrier trial last month which triggered a strong start to the spring after a successful Autumn campaign, and could be a more rewarding wager for keen punters.

Barrier six presents another potential winner in the form of the Gai Waterhouse-trained Brightexpectations at $4.40 with SportsBet.

The three-year-old colt may have slipped up in the Golden Slipper earlier this year, finishing 12th in the 15-horse field, but has shown his strength from two wins in as many barrier trials last month.

Also taking place on Sunday at Randwick will be the $125,000 Group Three Missile Stakes (1200m) which sees Love Conquers All the pre race favourite at SportsBet.

Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse will host this weekend’s spring racing carnival opener in the form of the San Domenico Stakes Day to the building anticipation of horse racing fans and punters alike.

Decision Times greatest competition looks set to be strong runners from last season Solar Charged and Masquerader.

If you are looking forward to placing down a bet for this Saturday, head over to Sportbet to check out the array of online options to make it easier for you!

Headlining the day of racing down at Randwick will be the $125,000 Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1000m), which will be one of eight great races to jump.

The 2010 San Domenico Stakes nominations are in, and 12 three-year-olds have been nominated to start the event, with the 2010 Golden Slipper runner up Decision Time leading the pack.

Trained by Clarry Conners, the Foreplay gelding had a strong Autumn campaign, with a runner up place in the Todman Slipper backed up with a slight defeat by superstar Typhoon Tracy in the Slipper, so could fare well over the sprint distance.

The golden goal for the spring is the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on the 28th of August, and with Craig Williams set to return to the hot seat will hope to replicate a barrier trial at Warwick Farm last week where Decision Time certainly impressed.

The rising three-year-olds greatest competition looks set to be strong runners from last season Solar Charged and Maquerader.

Winner of the Group Two Todman Slipper Trial (1200m) earlier in the year, Masquerader has once beaten Decision Time, and trainer David Payne believes he can do it again.

Coming off the back of an impressive barrier trial at the Rosehill Gardens racecourse last month, the Lucky Owners colt is looking to continue his unbeaten record.

However Payne has implied if the track is heavy Masquerader will miss the jump and start his spring in the $125,000 Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill on the 14th of August.

Also taking place at Randwick this weekend as part of the spring racing carnivals action will be the $125,000 Group Three Missile Stakes (1200m) and six other superb races, so check in back here closer to the race for tips and latest news before heading over to SportsBet to place your punt!

The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is almost upon us and as anticipation begins to grow among fans and punters alike the 2010 San Domenico Stakes jump is just around the corner and speculation is rife.

Several youngsters have been tipped to jump with one being the impressive Solar Charged.

Taking place at the prestigious Royal Randwick Racecourse, the San Domenico Stakes is a Group Three event over 1,000 metres for three-year-olds, and often draws top fields fresh from a spell.

Usually resulting in the best runner claiming the win due to the set weights with penalties conditions, the winner also receives the biggest share in the $125,000 purse often moving on to impressive things in the spring.

With the San Domenico Stakes touted as such a great indicator event for the spring, several youngsters have been tipped to jump with one being the impressive Solar Charged.

Just two weeks out from the jump and the upcoming John O’Shea-trained filly devastated her field in a 900 metre trail run at Randwick on Tuesda, defeating second placed Darya Ye Noor by a massive seven-and-a-half length win proving herself as a strong sprinter.

Also targeting a jump on the 7th of August in the San Domenico is the unbeaten colt Masquerader who won his trial by a length with apprentice hoop Nathan Berry in the saddle.

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse is looking to start Brightexpectations in the 2010 San Domenico Stakes as a lead up to the ultimate spring target the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on the 28th of August.

The colt won the Group Two Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) earlier in the year and would be a very strong contender for the San Domenico after some impressive trials at Randwick recently.

If you want to place a wager on the youngster who you think will win the 2010 San Domenico Stakes make sure you head back to this site for our previews and tips, then head to SportsBet and put them into action so you can get your money’s worth!
